The MiniMed 640G has some important features. We take a look at its Waterproof design, 48 basal rates, Enhanced Enlite (TM) sensor, and SmartGuard(TM) predictive low glucose management features. Find out which one suits you best. And, don't forget to check the customer reviews! We'll be back with another MiniMed review in a couple of weeks! But until then, read on for the best features of the MiniMed 640G.

Enhanced Enlite(TM) sensor

The Enhanced Enlite(TM) Sensor is an electrode that is inserted under the skin to measure glucose values. When combined with a MiniMed insulin pump or CGM start, this sensor sends information about glucose to a pump or CGM monitor. While the Enlite Sensor works with most insulin pumps and systems, it is not compatible with the MiniMed 670G insulin pump. If you are unsure of whether this sensor is right for you, talk to your healthcare professional.

The MiniMed 640G uses the Guardian 2 Link transmitter and Enhanced Enlite sensor. These two systems provide high accuracy blood glucose testing. They are compatible with each other and can be used for up to seven days. Both devices also include an advanced algorithm that helps identify faults in the sensors, including changes in glucose sensitivity or calibration. The Enhanced Enlite sensor is calibrated for continuous glucose monitoring and provides added convenience for users.

Waterproof design

The MiniMed 630G is water resistant and can be submerged for 24 hours. The MiniMed 640G is waterproof to 8 feet and is also able to handle rain. While the MiniMed 630G is water resistant, it's still not advisable to swim with it. The MiniMed 640G's waterproof design makes it an excellent choice for showers. Here's why:

48 basal rates

The MiniMed 640G has the advantage of flexibility in basal rates, with 48 to be set per day and 8 different patterns to choose from. The system also offers a large reservoir, either 180 or 300 units, which may be more convenient for patients who need more frequent insulin injections. The MiniMed 640G is a popular choice for diabetes care because of its easy-to-use interface and ability to program up to 48 basal rates at once.

The study evaluated 21 children with type 1 diabetes who were receiving daily insulin. The patients were measured with a Contour Next Link 2.4 glucometer, manufactured by Bayer. The staff trained to use the Enlite ™ sensor and Guardian(tm) 2 Link transmitter. The threshold of hypoglycemia was 60mg/dL for 24h, and the predictive low glucose suspension function was considered adequate.

PLGM was an additional feature on the investigational MiniMed 640G. Abraham et al. studied the MiniMed 640G-SG system under real-life conditions to demonstrate the algorithm's effectiveness in reducing the risk of hypoglycemia and cetosis. The MiniMed 640G-SG system was evaluated in three studies. One randomized controlled trial in children evaluated the MiniMed 640G system in reducing the risk of hypoglycemia. The MiniMed 640G system demonstrated good tolerability and adherence in 92% of patients.

SmartGuard(TM) predictive low-glucose management feature

The MiniMed 640G system incorporates the SmartGuard(TM) predictive low-glycemic management feature. This feature allows the patient to set up multiple target blood glucose levels. It is important to keep glucose levels within the appropriate range. The MiniMed 640G is waterproof to 12 feet for 24 hours. It can be used by the patient or by a therapy partner.

The MiniMed 670G is an advanced hybrid closed loop device that is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It has a sensor-augmented pump therapy and is capable of suspending insulin after four or six hours of aerobic activity. In addition to its predictive low-glucose management capability, the MiniMed 640G is compatible with multiple devices.

The SmartGuard(TM) predictive low-glycemic management feature on the MiniMed 640G is intended to prevent hypoglycemia from occurring in children. It is designed to stop insulin delivery when the user cannot respond. A sensor glucose level of 50 mg/dL or less is detected less than half the time when this feature is on. This reduction occurred primarily during the night.

The MiniMed 640G System is equipped with a Bayer CONTOUR(r) NEXT LINK(TM) 2.4 blood glucose meter. This meter provides highly accurate blood glucose testing. The Enhanced Enlite sensor and the Bolus Wizard(TM) calculator can calculate insulin boluses remotely, enabling patients to give themselves a bolus of insulin even without touching the device.
